FILM OVERVIEW

THEORY
This mind-bending film will tastefully bring awareness to today’s African American teenage hip-hop culture of the risks associated with sexual peer pressures of and its consequences.
The HIV and AIDS epidemic has disproportionately affected the African American community across time, although rates of HIV infection and AIDS were relatively rare among black women in the early years of the epidemic. Now however, HIV and AIDS disproportionately affect black women, especially young black women.  This film highlights some of the factors —behavioral and non-behavioral—that put young black women at disproportionate risk of HIV.

Deficient Deception covers Black women and the HIV Virus in various situations and how difficult it is to avoid the tempting sexual desires when wanting someone simply because they are physically attractive. The film ends encouraging young adults to rethink their behaviors as the face of HIV and AIDS is shown to be deceiving; to quote the star character, Ariel, from the film "Appearances are often deceiving. I can't believe I fell for this Deficient Deception." The film's name is derived from "Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS)."
